7 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE TRAVELLING ABROAD

“The gladdest moment in human life is a departure into unknown lands.” – Sir Richard Burton .

Travelling gives you experiences which are a treasure for lifetime. Everybody wants to get clicked on surreal locations and post those photos on Instagram, which is the new addiction for millennials. Travelling has become an essential escape from daily hectic schedule. With an easy access to internet, booking hotels, flight tickets etc. has not remained an expert’s job and this easier access has increased the number of travelers. According to the sources, at present nearly 25 million Indians travel abroad every year. This number is going to get doubled by 2020-25 as sources say. Considering this thing, I thought of writing down some of the important points which an Indian while travelling abroad should keep in mind.

  1. Be shameless and Communicate:

Many people often hesitate to communicate with locals when they are on a foreign trip because they lack confidence. Many a times, indicators may not be of any help to a foreign tourist because of the language barrier. If you know the local language, then nothing like it but even if you don’t the local language, do not hesitate to speak up and ask questions. The experience tells us that locals in may foreign country are also not very proficient in English and your English, although you consider it desi it works the best if you use simple words and speak slowly and clearly. Your fake accent is not going to help you here. Without any hesitation go on asking locals, shopkeepers, even police. They know the right way. Google is not always right!!!

Travel Mantra. 1:

WE ARE GLOBAL CITIZENS UNIVERSE HAS SAME CHARACTERISTICS.

  1. Be on time:

Indian Standard Time is truly Indian. Indians are generally not very particular about timings. On your leisure day of course you can loll around, but be very punctual if you have opted for some day trip. Being late on abroad trips is big ‘no no’. Foreigners are very punctual, they start on time and they generally end their daily tours on time. So if you are waking up late like ‘Yash raj’ film heroine then there will be a no show day for you. So sleep on time and be on time.

Travel Mantra. 2:

TIME IS MONEY, USE IT WISELY

  1. Luggage- the heavy belongings:

‘Wardrobe full of cloths but we have nothing to wear.’ This is every girl’s nightmare. Preparing a long list for things to carry in travel bag may sound like super-fun, but carrying a lot of luggage may not be a good idea. Unlike domestic trips, you will not get any help to carry those bags, not even in hotels. It is always a good idea to travel light. Carrying heavy bags from one place to another is a nightmare. Carry luggage through metro trains, trams, buses can be a big problem. Travelling by taxi or private vehicle service is very expensive. So carry light cloths, be smart, fashionable and which suits the best to your best Instagram angle.

Travel Mantra. 3:

BAGGAGE IS BURDEN… YOU CAN ENJOY MORE WHEN ITS IS SUFFICIENT. (MENTAL THOUGHTS OR OTHERWISE)

  1. Currency calculations:

This is one of the important things while travelling abroad. Currencies like US Dollars and Euros are accepted internationally but still we have to convert the USD or Euros into local currency. It is a good idea to carry a forex card because one does not have to worry about carrying lot of money in pocket and it avoids the hassle of frequently going to money exchange centers. You have to be very careful while converting money because many money conversion centers charge exorbitant commission. It is also true that even in developed countries, e-payments or card payments are not accepted in certain shopping centers and restaurants. Therefore, you must also carry sufficient foreign currency with you. Take estimate of the expenditure you are going to incur beforehand. If you fall short of foreign currency in abroad, getting foreign currency there is very expensive.

Travel Mantra. 4:

ALLOCATE YOUR FOREIGN CURRENCY WISELY

  1. Fashion means comfort:

With exciting promotions of fashion websites and e- Commerce business, we often spend a lot of money on designer clothing, footwear, bags and other stuff. But while travelling abroad we should prefer ‘comfort’ over ‘fashion’. All airports, sightseeing spots etc. we have to take a walk a lot, which can be physically tiring. The fashionable high heeled shoe may look very nice but may not be best suited and should be avoided. Shopping smart clothing that suits weather conditions of the country you are visiting is essential.

Travel Mantra. 5:

TOO MUCH OR TOO LESS = FASHION FAUX PASS

  1. Feed your taste buds with food and eyes with art:

Interesting cuisines, lively streets, old buildings and structures, music and art, that is the real soul of any place you explore around the world. Their spices, servings of meals, the way they eat their food all of it is worth observing. Their food pattern and recipes may differ from your own food habits but tasting local food should be on your bucket list. Every country has its own essence which one can experience in its music and art. The culture and history of country resonates its music and art. Don’t miss those places which give you these treats. It will definitely enhance your travelling perspective.

Travel Mantra. 6:

ART, MUSIC AND SOME GOOD FOOD WILL MAKE A GOOD MOOD.

  1. Rejuvenation is kind of Nirvana

Travelling different places gives you new insights and makes you feel better. These experiences can be helpful for your next trip or for your life in general. With all positive vibes and bag pack you go on tour and feel the change in yourself when you come back. You get to learn new things, read new people and their behavioral patterns. Some of them may be funny encounters and some not so pleasant, but all will be worth remembering. You learn, you grow and you go on creating lot of memories, which you can reminisce and narrate to others endlessly. So never forget to reach up to beautiful places, click photos and share it with your precious smile.
